Ahavat Olam

A progressive synagogue in Vancouver, BC, Canada

Join us for Kabbalat Shabbat on June 17th

The next Kabbalat Shabbat will be held at the Mivasair home on Friday evening, June 17, 2011 at 6:30 PM.

We’ll gather for candles, wine, camaraderie, song and prayer, and get settled in. Then, we sit in a circle, some on the floor on cushions, some in chairs, and sing to bring us into Shabbat, often with very sweet guitar accompaniment.  Sometimes between songs, Reb David shares a teaching or two from Torah.

Most stay for dinner*.  Please RSVP to Reb David (rabbi@ahavat-olam.ca) by June 16th, and check in with him about what to bring – the Mivasairs prepare a vegetarian/fish main dish, and each guest contributes a side dish to round out the  meal. All food brought to their house must be strictly kosher. Food guidelines are found here.

We’ll begin Kabbalat Shabbat at a bit after 6:30 pm. We’ll sit down for the  dinner around 7:30 pm.

If you have mobility restrictions, let Reb David know in advance (rabbi@ahavat-olam.ca or 604-781-7839) , and he will set up a ramp to the back door.

May we all be blessed every week to bring into this world a day of rest, peace and encounter with the sacred.

For future Kabbalat Shabbat dates, view the Ahavat Olam calendar.

* Each guest is asked to drop $5 into the porch mailbox on the way in, to help recover some of the costs associated with hosting the dinner.
