Theory and Praxis: Spiritually Based Peacemaking in the Holy Land

A Palestinian Sufi sheikh and an American-born Israeli Jew share the vision and experiences of their joint grassroots peace efforts, Tues, Nov 22, 2011, from 12- 2 2 PM at the Chan Centre Great Performers’ Lounge, 6265 Crescent Road, UBC, Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Sheikh Ghassan Manasra is an ordained sheikh, son of Sheikh Abdel Salaam Manasra, the head of the Qadiri Sufi order in the Holy Land, and the director of Anwar as-Salaam, a Muslim centre for dialogue and reconciliation in Nazareth. Eliyahu McLean was initiated as a “Rodef Shalom” (Peace Pursuer) by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi and lives in Jerusalem. Together they have trained religious and civic leaders, as well as educators, in practical peacemaking methods that tap the spiritual resources in Abrahamic traditions.
