Shabbat morning, July 18, 2020 תפילת שבת
Ahavat Olam Synagogue welcomes everyone to join us on line via Zoom in thoughtful, moving Shabbat morning prayers on July 18 at 10:00am, mostly sung, much in Hebrew, some in English, some in the language of the heart and in the speech of the angels.
Please let us know at info@ahavat-olam.ca if you wish to attend. We will get back to you with the information you’ll need to log in to the online Zoom meeting.
Our service will be led by Cantor Shira Stanford-Asiyo. Many in our congregation have come to know Cantor Shira well from various events she has led, including two Ahavat Olam shabbatot and a number of Zamru Song Circles. We welcome and thank her heartily for her leadership in continuing to bring these Zoom events to our community.
The weekly parshah (Torah portion) is Matot-Masei (Numbers 30:2 – 36:13), which includes the laws of oaths, details of the tribal portions in the Promised Land, establishment of cities of refuge, and a step toward egalitarianism in the inheritance of the daughters of Zelophedad. It also includes a troubling demand for genocide against the people of Midian, inviting us to confront the forces of xenophobia and hatred that still plague our world.
If you have questions, please write to info@ahavat-olam.ca.
