Shabbat morning, July 10, 2021 תפילת שבת
Ahavat Olam Synagogue welcomes everyone to join us on line via Zoom in thoughtful, moving Shabbat morning prayers on July 10, 2021 at 10:00 am, mostly sung, much in Hebrew, some in English, some in the language of the heart and in the speech of the angels.
Please let us know at info@ahavat-olam.ca if you wish to attend. We will get back to you with the information you’ll need to log in to the online Zoom meeting.
The weekly parshah (Torah portion) — a double portion this week — is Matot / Mas’ei (Numbers 30:2-32:42, 33:1-36:13). There’s a lot to struggle with here. Moses demands genocide in the battle against the Midianites; the Children of Israel prepare for their conquest of Canaan, and the Eternal defines for them what each tribe’s territory will be. The daughters of Zelophedad receive their inheritance — but with restrictions: they must marry within their father’s tribe.
[Parshat Mas’ei begins with a summary of the Children of Israel’s journey through the wilderness. What have been some of the way stations along your personal journey?]
