Ahavat Olam

A progressive synagogue in Vancouver, BC, Canada

Shabbat morning, May 8, 2021 תפילת שבת

Ahavat Olam Synagogue welcomes everyone to join us on line via Zoom in thoughtful, moving Shabbat morning prayers on May 8, 2021 at 10:00 am, mostly sung, much in Hebrew, some in English, some in the language of the heart and in the speech of the angels.

Please let us know at info@ahavat-olam.ca if you wish to attend. We will get back to you with the information you’ll need to log in to the online Zoom meeting.

The weekly parshah (Torah portion) — a double portion this week — is Behar / Bechukotai (Leviticus 25:1-26:2, 26:3-27:34). It offers ways to live in harmony with the land we farm (by letting it rest every seven years) and a measure of justice: slaves are to be freed, debts forgiven, and land restored to its original owners, every 50 years. It promises blessings — peace, plenty, prosperity, and Divine presence — if we live according to these laws, and warns of dire consequences if we don’t.

If you have questions, please write to info@ahavat-olam.ca.
