Shabbat morning, August 14, 2021 תפילת שבת
Ahavat Olam Synagogue welcomes everyone to join us on line via Zoom in thoughtful, moving Shabbat morning prayers on August 14, 2021 at 10:00 am, mostly sung, much in Hebrew, some in English, some in the language of the heart and in the speech of the angels.
Please let us know at info@ahavat-olam.ca if you wish to attend. We will get back to you with the information you’ll need to log in to the online Zoom meeting.
The weekly parshah (Torah portion) is Shoftim (Deuteronomy 16:18 – 21:9). It includes the ringing command, “Justice, justice shall you pursue – צֶ֥דֶק צֶ֖דֶק תִּרְדֹּ֑ף” that still reverberates, demanding our ongoing commitment. Many interpretations for the repetition of “justice” have been offered and you’ll find a few of them here: https://www.reconstructingjudaism.org/dvar-torah/justice-justice. Here’s one more: in these times, we’re waking up to how struggles for justice intersect: climate justice, social justice, justice for racialized and Indigenous peoples, gender and sexual justice, and many more. “Justice, justice” calls on us to recognize both the unity and the diversity of these struggles.
If you have questions, please write to info@ahavat-olam.ca.
