Shabbat evening  קבלת שבת

July 23, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm PDT

Ahavat Olam Synagogue and Hamakom welcome everyone to join us outdoors in person for thoughtful, moving Kabbalat Shabbat evening prayers on July 23, 2021 at 7:30pm, mostly sung, much in Hebrew, some in English, some in the language of the heart and in the speech of the angels, followed by Tu B’Av dancing. We will maintain physical distance, meeting in Copley Community Orchard at Vanness Avenue and Copley Street, a little south of Trout Lake (John Hendry) Park: https://goo.gl/maps/heu47kYK5mtPAMWy8. RSVP to cantorshira@gmail.com.

Tu B’Av is a festival of love, dancing, and rejoicing after the pain and grief of Tisha B’Av. It seems particularly appropriate, as we begin the beginnings of opening up to meet and dance together metaphorically after the pain of COVID isolation, to incorporate some literal meeting, singing, and dancing under the beauty of the full moon.

Please let us know at info@ahavat-olam.ca if you wish to attend or have any questions.

The weekly parshah (Torah portion) is Va’etchanan (Deuteronomy 3:23 – 7:11). Moses places the Torah before the children of Israel and stresses the importance of learning and dealing with it wisely. The portion includes the Shema and the repetition of the Ten Commandments: examples of strategies for approaching Torah — and life.

If you have questions, write to info@ahavat-olam.ca.
