March 18, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

Ahavat Olam Synagogue welcomes everyone to join us online via Zoom for thoughtful, moving Shabbat evening prayers on March 18, 2022 at 7:30pm, mostly sung, much in Hebrew, some in English, some in the language of the heart and in the speech of the angels.

Please join us if you can: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86731808237?pwd=T094RTFrRTdOSW5iME12Q2dMUkRoZz09

The weekly parshah (Torah portion) is Tzav (Leviticus 6:1 – 8:36). The Holy One continues to describe the different laws of sacrifices. In the Haftarah portion (Jeremiah 7:21-289:22-23), the prophet rebukes and warns us that sacrifices are not enough: indeed, sacrifices without righteousness — empty show without moral action — are abhorrent; hypocrisy will lead to disaster. “Kindness, justice, and equity in the world: in these I delight, declares the Eternal.”

If you have questions, please write to info@ahavat-olam.ca

[In the haftarah, the Eternal delights in kindness; at Purim especially, we’re enjoined to give gifts of kindness to those who need them. Image: Matt Collamer: https://unsplash.com/photos/8UG90AYPDW4 – “I met Michael in a Boston subway station. I told him I liked his sign. ‘What matters is what it means to you,’ he told me. I asked what it meant to him. ‘Doing a deed or expressing kindness to another person without expecting anything in return,’ Michael said. I love approaching strangers wherever I go. Listening and talking to them teaches you about people and how similar we all are to one another. Just like Michael, we’re all seeking human kindness.”]
